In Story Mode, the Ignited are given a concrete origin, being a species of powerful doppelgänger demons, revealed in the game's collectible newspapers and confirmed by Nikson. He does later talk about how they are acting 'unusual', implying that they are more then malfunctioning endos and in fact possessed, be it by the original missing children from the main series, or The Ignited demons. He says the mainframes are out of place and that if those animatronics were to put on a show, they would 'go bonkers' in front of children. He recommends investing in new endoskeletons, as according to him, those cannot be fixed. Phone Guy says that the endoskeletons are severely damaged and probably irreplaceable with the budget Scott can meet. While the original game is ambiguous when it comes to the origins of The Ignited, the game does allude to them most likely being just the Withered Animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy's 2, in the process of being remade as the Classic Animatronics. Their suit textures have the appearance of being burnt (most likely connected to their name and hellish origins), while their eyes are that Springtrap and the phantom animatronics. They are more destroyed, with some parts of the suit and endoskeleton removed. The Ignited are mostly based on the withered animatronics.
